1.6.10 Get the Beat.

I picked up an old photo book at a local thrift shop, "New Orleans: A Picture Book to Remember Her By," published in 1978 and the photo's, although they didn't scan well, are fantastic. The characters in the photo's, from their hairstyles to their clothes are so 70s- I love it!

An old New Orleans advertisement for a Storyville madam known as "Queen Gertie," from the New Orleans, Louisiana publication, "The Mascot." She supposedly had a reputation for being a troublemaker. From the book, "Storyville, New Orleans" by Al Rose.

An old photo from the New Orleans Public Library, depicting the first of women's swimwear fashions, taken in 1919. I love their facial expressions, you can really tell who must have been the funny one, the serious one and so on....

11.12.09 Sazerac Bar

Women stormed the Sazerac, the bar located in The Roosevelt, in this 1949 photo. Doesn't look too different from bar scenes today.
